FOOD ON THE TABLE FOR QUADRIPLEGIC & PARAPLEGICS – COVID PROJECT 2020 |
The Trust launched a project to ensure food on the table for quadriplegics and paraplegics in South Africa.
The effect of the COVID 19 pandemic was felt more especially by people with disabilities & the Charitable Trust whose beneficiary constituency are quadriplegics and paraplegics in South Africa (75% of whom are previously disadvantaged) identified their vulnerability & inability to continue in a workplace or self-employment & launched this project to ensure food on the table.
More than 375 were assisted with food vouchers in this project. The Charitable Trust provided Pick n Pay vouchers to mobile numbers by sms through WebTickets & the qualified beneficiaries, received groceries to the value of R500.00, this ensured that there was food on the table for themselves & their families.
Suzanne Ackerman very generously made a donation to this project of R20 000.00 on behalf of Pick n Pay & this was matched by Wimpie van der Merwe of Global Choices, while QASA contributed R30 000.00.
“We were committed to keeping food on the table for quadriplegics & paraplegics in South Africa & are grateful for the support we have received as well as the mechanisms available to ensure a paperless application & awarding process. Said Xolise Mchunu, Chairperson of the Trust (2020). |

SMALL BUSINESSES THROWN A LIFELINE BY THE QUADRIPLEGIC & PARAPLEGIC CHARITABLE TRUST OF SOUTH AFRICA – COVID PERIOD 2020/2021 |
| |
There were many quadriplegics & paraplegics in South Africa who survived solely on the revenue that they generate from their small business & entrepreneurial activities. Inaccessible transport & environments not conducive for wheelchair users are incentives for quadriplegics & paraplegics to open their own business & trade from home.
The lockdown paralysed & put at risk the many businesses owned by quadriplegics & paraplegics. This situation was identified by Trust & the Trustees made emergency funding available for rescue & sustainability of these businesses.
By the end of June 2020, QPCTSA awarded funding a dozen companies who qualified & all of these beneficiaries managed to survive through the Covid pandemic through this support. |
